Recovery Setback

Hi Everyone,
Since the last update on Wednesday morning Natalia has encountered an unexpected bump in her progress.

It's not entirely known yet what has happened, but her body may have had a reaction to one or a combination of the medications she's on that may have created an adverse reaction and/or medical staff may not have provided her with the amount of food her body required via feeding tube after she had another bronchoscopy (Natalia is also Type-1 diabetic so food intake is critical).

The last 3 days have been unsettling for her - she may have had a seizure, lost a lot of weight rapidly, was at times feeling paralyzed and numb, had to be taken back up to the Step Down Unit on the 10th floor where she is right now and has experienced a few other things that have all been a physical, emotional and psychological blow for her and shock to Martin and family.

The GOOD NEWS is she's starting to feel better. And has been sleeping alot. And eating alot. Current theory in the Ritchie household is that her current recovery is due in large part to her mom Hanna's polish soup recipes... (Nat has just started to be able to eat actual food again)

The last few days have certainly been a confirmation of the nature of cystic fibrosis, organ transplants and Natalia's journey. And proof positive of why it's important to not get too far ahead of one's sense of relief and excitement when progress is being made due to the nature of the beast. There can often be unexpected turns for the worse. But as you know there can also be expected and unexpected turns for the better as well and that's what's being focused on right now.

Thank you in advance for an increased infusion of thoughts and prayers at this time.

We'll update you again when we have a better sense of things...and as Natalia gets back on her road to recovery full steam ahead which she'll undoubtedly do.

Myles

Oh no! Ramping up the prayers and sending positive energy your way!

I'm sure this is just a momentary blip in the forward progress and you'll be back on track soon.

Don't let this get you down. If I've learned anything about you, Natalia, a setback like this will just spur you on!

Many hugs and prayers to all~

Myles, you always find just the right words and the right tone to convey the messages we need to hear. You're a God-send to all who follow Natalia's amazing race. Mom's Polish soup sounds like it has the right ingredients to speed the healing with warmth and love.

I found some encouragement in 2 Corinthians chapter 1 and offer selected verses to strengthen Natalia and her wonderful support team.

"...we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. 10 And He did rescue us from mortal danger, and He will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in Him, and He will continue to rescue us. 11 And you are helping us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our safety."

Always praying that you'll each feel God's strength in body, mind, soul and spirit. We've almost reached the darkest day of the year, but the bright lights of the season are overcoming the darkness. Natalia's Christmas tree stands strong and evergreen and the love of her family and her team will never diminish.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear you encountered a bump, Natalia and family. But I'm also really happy to hear that it's a BUMP, not a MOUNTAIN. And I'm very sure you'll assail it in no time.

Pumping up my positive thoughts and sending them your way.

Thanks Myles, Love jo

2 steps forward one step back. This is the road to recovery after such a major surgery. You are doing incredible Natalia! Keep the food going into your body and maybe your Mom's soup has some magical powers that will give you even more strength (as if you need that). This is definatrly frustrating, but you are heading in the right direction. Keep Going Girl! I have no doubt in my mind that you have all the strength to get through this and get better. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers always. This is setback, but as you have proven to us over and over again this will not hold you back, you will get over this and be back on your feet in no time!

Nat you have done so wonderful, this is just a bump, your such a fighter you'll get through this though I can see how it's a blow when things were looking so up.

It'll be okay, when you look back on this one day you'll realize just how strong you were and are to have gone through all this, bumps, bruises, scrapes and such and feel a huge sense of relief to be done with it all.

Hang in there, that day is coming....you'll get through this next obsticle and I'll continue to pray that it is quick.

Thinking of you always.
